April 10, 2020: Liberty Senior Living COVID-19 Update

General Announcements

The health and wellbeing of our residents and staff remain our priority as we work through the newest updates regarding the COVID-19 virus.  We continue to follow safety precautions and screening activities for residents and staff members in our communities based on recommendations from The Centers for Disease Control and The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Per the recommendations of the CDC and CMS, group activities and communal dining have stopped in our communities. Life-enrichment and wellness directors are finding innovative ways to engage residents while adhering to social distancing guidelines. The teams are working hard to preserve the residents’ lifestyle and maintain a sense of community while coping with these unprecedented constraints.

The CDC has updated the guidelines with regard to personal protective equipment inside communities. As a result, the staff and healthcare workers in Liberty Senior Living communities will follow universal mask precautions in all areas of their communities. When possible, all residents, whether they have COVID-19 symptoms or not, should cover their noses and mouths when staff is in their room. Residents can use tissues for this. They could also use cloth, non-medical masks when those are available. Residents should not use medical facemasks unless they are COVID-19-positive or assumed to be COVID-19-positive. The bullet points below regarding cloth face coverings are directly from the CDC’s website.

  • The cloth face cover is meant to protect other people in case you are infected.
  • The cloth face coverings recommended are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators. Medical face masks are critical supplies that should be reserved for healthcare workers and other first responders, as recommended by the CDC.
  • The cloth face cover is not a substitute for social distancing.
  • CDC continues to recommend that people try to keep about 6 feet between themselves and others.

We do not want residents and family members to be alarmed at this time.  This is a precautionary measure. The safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff are our number one priority and we will continue to monitor and implement CDC guidelines as updates are released.

All precautions and measures mentioned above have been implemented in response to the recommendations of The CDC. More detailed information can be found on The CDC’s website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/summary.html#anchor_1580064337377.

March 12, 2020: Liberty Senior Living COVID-19 Update

As the COVID-19 virus continues to spread and concerns continue to grow, Liberty Senior Living has decided to take precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of our residents, family members and staff throughout all our communities. Much about the virus is still unknown, but we do know that the population we serve is at greater risk for the most serious impacts associated with this new strain of virus.

Based upon revised recommendations of The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”), Liberty Senior Living will prohibit unnecessary visitors to help combat the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and welfare of our residents. We encourage loved ones to forego in-person visits and communicate with our residents by video chat, telephone, or through social media. These precautions are vital to helping us avoid and minimize the possible spread of this virus internally and throughout the community at large.

We are also educating staff, residents and our families on symptom awareness for COVID-19 and infection control best practices. We have clear protocols for staff to stay home and not come to work if they are ill or symptomatic. Plans are already in place to handle a wide range of emergencies and are being updated and evaluated as we receive new information. We are working closely with other health care providers in our community to help ensure the health and safety of all.

We will stay up to date with the latest information from the CMS and CDC. Our top priority is the health and well-being of our residents and those who care and support them each and every day. We will continue to work with state and local public health and emergency preparedness officials to protect our residents and the community in which we live.

Given that this is an evolving situation, we will make every effort to provide timely updates regarding any changes in practices and circumstances in our communities.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this challenge and remain focused on providing exceptional care and services for our residents.
