Fitness With a Beat

Fitness at Hayes Barton Place comes with a soundtrack and a whole lot of smiles. Under the guidance of Wellness Director Shannon Hardy, staying active feels more like a party than a workout.

The most popular class, Sit ’n Fit, regularly packs the room with about 50 residents three times weekly. From free weights and resistance bands to tennis balls for coordination and weighted toning balls for brain boosting moves, the class keeps bodies and minds on their toes, even while seated.

The real magic might be the music. As exercises roll on, residents belt out favorites from the Drifters, ABBA, and the Four Tops, proving that fitness is better when you know the words. Seated volleyball and cardio drumming classes add even more energy and laughter to the mix.

Shannon says the joy is contagious. “Staff and residents alike are having so much fun. Everyone is singing, dancing, and enjoying themselves every day,” she said. Getting stronger and healthier is the happy side effect.
